Maria Skłodowska Curie (1867 – 1934), born Maria Salomea Skłodowska in Warsaw, was a Polish and naturalized-French physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. She became the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the only person to win the award in two different fields (physics and chemistry).
